Celtic manager Neil Lennon has confirmed that veteran goalkeeper Craig Gordon will start tonight against Partick Thistle.

The Betfred Cup Quarter Final will take place at Celtic Park, with the Hoops as the favourites to progress and also to defend their crown.

The visitors currently sit at the bottom of the Scottish Championship table with two points from six matches.

As quoted on Celtic’s official Twitter account, Lennon said:

Craig Gordon will play tomorrow. It’s important he gets games and we keep him motivated. He deserves to play.

This is a sensible move from Lennon as there’s no harm in giving Gordon some valuable game time in this fixture.

The Hoops will expect to comfortably advance into the next round of the competition and Gordon will be seeking a clean sheet.

Do you want Celtic to offer Gordon a contract extension?

Yes

No

He’s fallen out of favour to loan signing Fraser Forster so far this season and with this being the final year on his contract, he’ll accept any opportunity to start between the sticks.

It also provides Forster with some well-deserved time to rest and stay fresh as the fixtures begin to come thick and fast.
