Shankland responds to Celtic links – Why his comments could appeal to the Hoops

Lawrence Shankland has responded to the recent rumours linking him with a move to either Celtic or Rangers in the future, and his comments could appeal to the Hoops.
According to the Daily Record, Shankland ruled out a move away from Dundee United in January following the recent links, but revealed he would be open to a departure once he has helped his side into the Scottish Premiership.
If people are watching me this season then I’m obviously doing my job. And scoring goals will always attract attention. But I have a job to do here this season. I signed for three years with United in the summer – and that’s what I’m committed to.
If and when I do leave, I want United to be in the Premiership. That was part of my objective when I came here. The club has ambition to get back into the top flight and be established in that league. That’s why I signed the contract I did.

Shankland comments could certainly appeal to Celtic, who appear unlikely to have made a move for the striker in January given their current striking options.
Dundee United are currently flying in the Championship, however, and are joint-top of the league following six wins from their opening seven league games.
Shankland has been crucial to that start, with 13 goals in the league already this campaign, and the Tangerines’ ambition to gain promotion to the Premiership could well be achieved this season.
A summer move for Shankland therefore could be on the cards, which could suit Celtic who would be in a better position to asses where they need to strengthen their squad in the summer.
