Celtic defender Hatem Abd Elhamed has picked up an illness whilst on international duty with Israel, according to a report on the Daily Record.

The right-back is expected to miss his nation’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Latvia on Tuesday.

The 28-year-old has made an impressive start to the season for the Hoops and Neil Lennon will be hoping that the problem isn’t serious enough to see him miss out in the Scottish Premiership.

Elhamed was particularly singled out for praise in the Europa League matches against Rennes and Cluj.

Luckily, the problem is only a virus and he should be feeling better within a couple of days.

Even if the illness is more serious, then Lennon knows that he has enough cover in the right-back position through Moritz Bauer and Jeremie Frimpong.

Lennon will be itching for his side to bounce back from the defeat against Livingston with a victory against Ross County next weekend.

Is Elhamed Celtic's best right-back at the moment?
