AEK Athens willing to sell Barkas in January

Celtic appear to have been given a transfer boost amid reports that AEK Athens are willing to allow Vassilis Barkas to leave the club in January, so is a move likely to happen?

According to Sport Witness, Greek outlet Sportime.Gr have revealed that AEK are planning to offload Barkas for a fee in the region of €7million in order to raise funds to make a January move of their own.

So are Celtic likely to make a move for Barkas in January?

Given Celtic’s current goalkeeping options, a January move for Barkas would be surprising, especially after Scott Bain’s contract extension earlier on Thursday.

Neil Lennon currently has three proven keepers in Fraser Forster, Scott Bain and Craig Gordon at his disposal, and adding a fourth in January would be unlikely if all three stay at the club.

However, links with Barkas could suggest that Celtic are expecting Southampton to activate their recall clause for Forster in January; in which case a move for Barkas or another goalkeeper would become a must.
