Kris Commons believes a potential January exit for Scott Sinclair could be a big boost for Celtic’s chances of landing Mohamed Elyounoussi on a permanent basis in the summer.

According to 67 Hail Hail, Commons was quoted in the Scottish Daily Mail as suggesting that Sinclair’s high wages should be ‘reinvested’ in a deal for the Southampton loanee.

Scott Sinclair is now firmly the forgotten man at Parkhead. Elyounoussi’s form — along with others — means one of Celtic’s top earners on 30-odd grand a week is sitting twiddling his thumbs.

Sinclair hasn’t started a game this season, with his six appearances all coming off the bench — that’s a shame for such a talented player. If a mutual parting of the ways comes in January, Celtic should reinvest those wages in a package which secures the permanent capture of Elyounoussi.

Commons does raise an excellent point about Sinclair, as he is currently one of Celtic’s top earners despite the fact he is barely getting a game this season.

Allowing him to leave in January therefore would certainly free up those wages, and if Celtic can put them towards a deal for Elyounoussi then that is something the club should definitely explore.

However according to Spotrac.com, the Southampton loanee is earning a wage of around £60,000-a-week at St. Mary’s, meaning he may be out of the Hoops’ budget.
