Burnley have reportedly made contact with Nir Bitton’s representatives over a potential move to the Premier League side in January.

The Israel international emerged as a target for Burnley earlier this week as they look to bolster their midfield options, with the out of favour Danny Drinkwater set for a return to Chelsea.

And according to Football Insider, The Clarets have opened “preliminary” talks with Bitton’s representatives and are planning to offer the 28-year-old a large pay rise to tempt him with a move to Turf Moor.

A potential departure for Bitton in January would be a blow for Celtic, given how important his versatility and experience in the squad is, with the Israeli capable of offering cover both in central midfield and at centre-back.

On the other hand, Celtic may well attempt to cash in on the midfielder with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season, and explore other alternative options.
