Once again, Jose Mourinho has found himself dominating the media spotlight following his appointment as the new Tottenham Hotspur manager, after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked on Tuesday evening.
And his move to Spurs could be a potential blow for Celtic’s chances of signing January target Victor Wanyama, if previous transfer rumours are anything to go by.
According to multiple reports, Mourinho has been interested in signing Wanyama during his respective spells at both Chelsea and Manchester United.
Firstly the Metro reported in 2015 that Mourinho wanted to make a £20.5million bid for the midfielder who was enjoying a successful spell at Southampton at the time.

That move failed to materialise however, with the Kenya international joining Spurs in 2016.
Mourinho also expressed an interest in signing Wanyama during his time at Old Trafford however, according to the Daily Star, who suggested that United were in pole position to sign the midfielder in 2018.

Mourinho’s previous interest in signing Wanyama could therefore suggest that he is a big fan of the midfielder, and could well look to revive his career at Spurs instead of looking to ship him out.

The Kenya international had be deemed as surplus to requirements under Pochettino, and Spurs were expecting him to leave the club in the January window, with a return to Celtic looking likely.
However, Mourinho’s appointment could well put a stop to those plans which would prove to be a blow for the Hoops, given how reports have suggested a six-month loan spell was on the cards.
