Griffiths issues perfect response to challenge set by Neil Lennon

Leigh Griffiths has issued the perfect response to a challenge set to him by Neil Lennon prior to the international break.

The Celtic boss issued an update on Griffiths’ fitness after the 2-0 win over Motherwell, challenging the striker to impress for the Reserves and ‘get up to speed’ during the break, the Daily Record reported.

We’re hoping to give him two good weeks of work, then he has a developmental game next week – see how he comes through that. We want him up to speed, he’s not up to speed, not at the level that we want him at, he’s got to do the work in the next two weeks.

Griffiths certainly seems to have risen to Lennon’s challenge, following a positive return to action in a friendly for the Reserves against Stenhousemuir.

The 29-year-old scored two goals in quick succession in the first-half to put Celtic 2-0 up after 15 minutes at Lennoxtown, while Liam Burt also impressed with a hat-trick and an assist in the 6-0 victory.

And though it clearly wasn’t a stern test for Griffiths, Lennon will have at least been pleased to see the striker complete the 90 minutes and grab himself a brace ahead of the return to domestic action this weekend.
