Hutton believes Elyounoussi has been Celtic’s player of the season so far

Former Scotland international Alan Hutton believes Mohamed Elyounoussi has been Celtic’s standout player so far this season.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton suggested that the winger has shown his “quality” since his loan from Southampton and is a player who excites supporters.

Elyounoussi, I’d probably give it to him because he started off slow, was in and out a little bit, but in the last few months we’ve really started to see the quality.

We’re starting to see why Southampton bought him for so much money. His ability to get people off their seats, that’s ultimately what people want to go to grounds for. He’s running at defenders, scoring goals, getting assists. He gets bums off seats so I think I’d have to give it to him at the moment.

It’s a difficult call to suggest who has been Celtic’s standout player so far, given how so many players have impressed at various points of the season.

Elyounoussi has certainly had an excellent start to his Hoops career, with seven goals and six assists in just 12 appearances thus far.

However Odsonne Edouard, James Forrest and Ryan Christie have all scored over 10 goals already this season, whilst also chipping in with their fair share of assists as well.

Scott Brown has been playing as though he’s 10 years younger than he actually is, while Callum McGregor has been hugely important in the middle.

Christopher Jullien and Fraser Forster have arguably been the standouts at the back, with Kristoffer Ajer recovering from a slightly shaky patch recently.
