Celtic have been linked with a potential January move for Bnei Yehuda midfielder Ismaila Soro after an impressive start to the season.
The Hoops have been linked with a number of midfield options ahead of the January window, with the likes of Niklas Dorsch, Victor Wanyama and David Turnbull all rumoured to be on Celtic’s radar.
And reports on Monday claimed that Celtic have added Soro to that list of potential targets, after sending scouts to watch the midfielder play for Yehuda in their 2-1 win over Hapoel Beer Shiva.
The Hoops are now said to be considering a potential move for the £3million rated Soro.
A journalist for Greek media outlet Sportime also suggested that Celtic had dispatched scouts to watch two other reported targets in Sunday’s clash between Olympiakos and PAOK.
However following the Hoops’ scouting mission in Israel, we’ve taken a look at who Soro is and the interesting career he has had to date.
Soro is a 21-year-old defensive midfielder from the Ivory Coast, currently plying his trade in Israel with Bnei Yehuda.
Soro has had an interesting career thus far, with his first move coming back in 2016 when he signed for Moldovan outfit FC Saxan. The midfielder made 22 appearances for the club before leaving after one season.
Belarusian outfit Gomel then snapped Soro up in 2017, and the Ivorian made 17 appearances for them in all competitions in a six-month spell with the club
Soro then signed for Israeli side Bnei Yehunda in January 2018, and has since established himself as a regular figure. The midfielder has made 55 appearances in all competitions.
Soro was an important figure for Yehunda in their impressive 2-1 win over Hapoel Beer Sheva last weekend in front of Celtic’s scouts. The midfielder has played in all but one of Yehunda’s games this season, and his side currently sit fifth in the Israeli Premier League.
Soro is a busy defensive midfielder who enjoys a strong challenge and breaking up play, despite his small stature at 5ft 6in. The 21-year-old is a bundle of energy who is good on the ball and has the ability to jink past players in midfield after dispossessing them.
Not the best in front of goal
Goals and assists do not come on a regular basis from Soro. In fact his current ration is one goal per 94 games in all competitions, with the 21-year-old finding the back of the net just once in his career so far.
Potential Celtic move
A move to Parkhead would certainly be a step up for Soro, given his lack of experience. However Hatem Abd Elhamed made the transition with ease and if Soro can have a similar impact then he could prove a fine signing.
