Karamoko Dembele and Jonathan Afolabi combined expertly to equalise for Celtic Reserves in their penalty shootout victory over Motherwell in the final group game of the Reserve Cup on Tuesday.
The Hoops went 1-0 down early on following a goalkeeping error from Liam Hughes, but Dembele and Afolabi produced an excellent piece of link-up play to bring Celtic level.
Afolabi picked the ball up in space on the edge of the area before laying off to Dembele, who produced a delicate chip over the Motherwell defence for the striker to latch on to,
Celtic’s summer signing still had a lot of work to do to finish however, and the youngster allowed the ball to drop before producing a brilliant lob of his own to loop the ball over the onrushing Motherwell ‘keeper.
The game finished level before the Hoops won the penalty shootout to earn an extra point and progress to the semi-final.

Dembele and Afolabi’s link-up play certainly bodes well for the future for Celtic, who had a number of exciting young players on display against Motherwell.
The pair will now be hoping they can continue to impress throughout the rest of the competition and earn a chance in the first-team at some stage this season.
