Celtic had already booked their place in the Europa League round of 32 but were unable to cap a fine group stage campaign with a positive result at Cluj. 

The Romanian outfit came out on top in a 2-0 win, much to the disappointment of the Hoops faithful, and there was one man in particular who was lamented by some sections of the fan-base. 

Craig Gordon came into the team as Neil Lennon handed Fraser Forster a well-earned rest, but he did little to inspire confidence, with these fans frustrated by his failure to cope with the second Cluj goal effectively…

It wasn’t a good night for Gordon, and if anything, his showing has reinforced just how crucial Forster is for the club.

Although his experience and leadership qualities are useful, and he is a decent enough rotational option, it is clear that there is disparity between Celtic’s backup goalkeepers and Forster. 

On the whole, it was an experiment that backfired for Lennon and his men, but the main thing is that the Hoops have made the final 32 of the Europa League with relative ease.
