German Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin are now in ‘pole position’ to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Victor Wanyama, according to a report on the Football Insider.
Celtic have been closely linked with Wanyama ever since the summer transfer window and Neil Lennon is understood to be keen on submitting a bid to bring the midfielder back to Glasgow.

However, earlier this week, it was revealed that Hertha would provide competition for his signature and now the report claims that they are leading the race.
The Kenya international’s wages seem to be a stumbling block for Celtic as he currently earns around £65,000 a week at Spurs, which is a figure that the Hoops can’t match due to their wage structure.

Is it worth breaking the wage structure for Wanyama? Probably not. He’s a fantastic player and would bring so much value and experience to the squad, but central midfield isn’t an area of weakness for the Hoops at the moment.
Lennon needs to somehow convince Wanyama of taking a pay cut, or just sign him on a half-season loan deal in January until the end of the season.
Seeing more teams coming in for the midfielder will be frustrating for Lennon but the chance of a Europa League winners medal could tempt him back to Paradise.
