Leicester City are reportedly leading the race to sign Carlisle United defender Jarrad Branthwaite in January.

Celtic have previously been linked with a move for the defender and were said to be keen on making a move for him in the winter window.

However according to Football Insider, Leicester are in “pole position” to sign the 17-year-old next month ahead of the likes of Celtic, Aston Villa and Newcastle.

Previous reports have suggested that the Magpies have first refusal on Branthwaite, however.

The Hoops have scouted the teenager on multiple occasions this season, with head of football operations Nick Hammond making the trip across the border to watch him in action.
