Robinson urges Celtic to offer Craig Gordon a new deal
Paul Robinson believes Celtic should offer Craig Gordon a new deal as soon as possible as he is the “ideal” player to have as a backup goalkeeper.
The former England international told Football Insider that Neil Lennon should certainly offer Gordon a new deal if the 36-year-old is willing to take a role as a backup ‘keeper at Celtic.
I think they should sign him straight away. If he’s willing to play a number two, stroke number one role, someone of his quality, age, experience, it’s an ideal number two.
It’s a completely different role as a number one. It’s one you have to get used to, I did it later in my career at Burnley, you accept your role and you have to get your head round a completely different role. If Craig Gordon is willing to do that, I would 100 per cent give him that new contract tomorrow.

While Gordon does provide a good option as a backup ‘keeper alongside Scott Bain, the 36-year-old has hinted that his future could lie away from Celtic.
Do you think Gordon will leave in January?
Yes
No
The shot-stopper has not entered negotiations over a new contract despite his current deal expiring next summer, and has recently revealed his desire to be playing regular first-team football despite his age.
A move away could be on the cards therefore, with some suggestions that he could be set for a January move.
