David Parkhouse offers update about his future amid Celtic interest

David Parkhouse has offered an update on his future after the striker rejected a new contract with Sheffield United.

The 20-year-old has been linked with a move to Celtic on multiple occasions this season following a successful loan spell with Derry City.

Parkhouse has since increased the speculation after rejecting a contract extension with the Blades, and he has opened up as to why he made that decision, the Sheffield Star reports.

I haven’t turned it down out of disrespect to Sheffield United but you have to sit down and look at where your future is going to lie. 

I’ve been up with the first team since I’ve been back, I’ve been training and done well but I have to assess whether there will be a breakthrough for me in the team at some point. Looking at it now, there’s not really going to be that opportunity.

I’m by no means being cocky or thinking I’m bigger than Sheffield United because I know I’m not but I know my worth as well. I know where I want to be at this moment in time.

And what I’ve been offered just isn’t for me at the minute. I want to be at a place where I get regular game-time, regular first team football. I could stay at the club and negotiate a better contract but I’m just weighing up my options now and seeing where to go in January.

Parkhouse certainly appears to be a relatively risk free signing for Celtic if they do indeed pursue a move for him.

The 20-year-old is available on a pre-contract agreement from next month, meaning the Hoops will get him on a free transfer or have to pay a small compensation fee.

The Northern Ireland Under-21 international is yet to prove himself at a level as high as the Scottish Premiership and the Europa League however.
