Celtic capped off 2019 with a desperately poor performance at home to Rangers ending in a 2-1 defeat.
A deflection off of Odsonne Edouard cancelled out a Ryan Kent strike before Nicola Katic’s header in the second-half won it for Steven Gerrard’s side.
With Rangers edging the opening minutes of the game it was the visitors who took the lead.
A ball rolled across allowed Kent to curl home via the post to put his side 1-0 up.
However it didn’t take long for Celtic to respond and grab the equaliser before half-time.
Callum McGregor’s shot came off Edouard on its way towards goal to wrongfoot Alan McGregor and bounce into the net.
After half-time, Rangers jumped back in front as Katic rose highest to nod home at the near post.
Celtic pushed for the equaliser thereafter but lacked any real quality going forward as their rivals looked comfortable.
Christopher Jullien headed close from a couple of corners but to no avail.
Alfredo Morelos saw another inevitable red card for second yellow as he dived in the box late on.
Here’s how we rated the players after a disappointing performance.
Fraser Forster: 6
Wasn’t at fault for either of the goals.
Jeremie Frimpong: 5
Out of position for the Rangers opener and didn’t look comfortable all game.
Wasn’t allowed to get forward and when he did, he created very little.
Christopher Jullien: 6
Marshalled Morelos well but really should have have scored from a corner, but his effort was cleared off the line.
Kristoffer Ajer: 5
Did okay on the ball and pushed forward when needed, but should have been stronger against Katic for Rangers’ second.
Boli Bolingoli: 5
Wasn’t great on the ball and didn’t offer much of a threat down left.
Scott Brown: 6
Battled well in the midfield but was outnumbered at times. One of the better performers on the day, however.
Callum McGregor: 6
His shot found the net via Edouard.
Took the ball well but had little options ahead of him. Arguably Celtic’s best performer on the day.
Mikey Johnston: 5
Saw his first start in a few games but seemed to hide from the ball in a disappointing display.
Ryan Christie: 5
Didn’t have any real effect not the game and really not at his best, emphasised by his penalty miss in the first-half.
James Forrest: 4
Like recent weeks, was very quiet.
Barely contributed anything and was rightly substituted in the second-half.
Odsonne Edouard: 5
Got lucky as he deflected McGregor’s shot into the net.
Struggled to get into the game afterwards, and had very little service to thrive off.
(SUB) Olivier Ntcham: 6
Added some composure to the game but that wasn’t enough, perhaps should have been introduced earlier.
(SUB) Nir Bitton: 5
Came on as Celtic went to a back three, but again did little to impact the game.
(SUB) Leigh Griffiths: 5
Put in some good deliveries but his team couldn’t make the most of it, and he wasted an excellent opportunity from a free-kick. Another who should have been brought on earlier.
