Gordon Strachan believes Celtic will be looking at signing a “target man” in January as Neil Lennon looks to strengthen with a player who can offer something different up front.
The Hoops boss has already confirmed his desire to sign a striker in the New Year, with competition needed for Odsonne Edouard.
And according to the Express, Strachan believes a forward who can offer Celtic “height and strength” up top is the type of player Lennon should be targeting in January.
Lenny is a very clever man. He will understand that he needs to look at it and that Celtic need to improve. He needs cover for Odsonne Edouard – we don’t know the situation with Leigh Griffiths, his career’s on hold at the moment, and everyone hopes the lad can get back to it.

But, at this moment in time, Celtic will probably be looking for a target man forward. If you have a smaller group of players, they have to be perfect in the way they play – when you have a bit of height and strength, you have days when you’re off it technically, but you can get through it.

Strachan is right to suggest Celtic need a little bit of something different up front, especially off the back of Sunday’s defeat to Rangers.
Leigh Griffiths was introduced late on but his style of play is not too dissimilar to Eddy’s, and Lennon had no other alternative who could come on and offer a different kind of threat for Celtic.
A target man however would do just that. The Hoops would be able to adapt their normal style of play in games where that is not working, and break teams down in a different manner.
