Danny Mills believes Scott Hogan could succeed at Celtic and “surprise people” despite his current struggles on loan with Stoke City.
According to Football Insider, the Championship side are “open” to cutting his move short this month, and Mills suggested a move to Celtic would be good for the striker with Villa willing to strike a deal with the Hoops.
As a player you want to play at the highest possible level that you can, even if sometimes it may seem beyond you, you’ve got to take that opportunity because you don’t know when it’ll come around again. And sometimes, you surprise people and you surprise yourself.

Sometimes, it works at some clubs for you and others it doesn’t. [Romelu] Lukaku amazing at West Brom, fabulous at Everton but it didn’t work at Manchester United for him. Sometimes there’s no real great or particular reason, sometimes players just aren’t suited to a certain type of club.

While Mills is correct to suggest that sometimes a player just isn’t suited to playing for a club, I can’t help but feel sceptical when it comes to the possibility of Celtic signing Hogan.
This is a striker who has scored just 14 goals since 2017 when he signed for Aston Villa, and his history suggests another loan spell won’t change that.
Hogan spent the second-half of the 2018/19 campaign on loan with Sheffield United, scoring twice in eight appearances for the club, while he has managed the same tally in 15 games during his stint with Stoke this campaign.
Celtic are therefore better off targeting a player who has been scoring consistently over the past two or three seasons in our opinion, as the Hoops need a player of that ilk to offer competition for Odsonne Edouard.
