Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic has emerged as Derby County’s top transfer target this month, according to a report on the Derby Telegraph.
The 22-year-old has been linked with a move back to Celtic in recent weeks, with Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers stating that his future at the club depends on if the Foxes can sign another defender.

As quoted in the report, Rodgers said:
Only if we brought one (centre back) in.
That would give him (Benkovic) the opportunity to go and get the games he needs. If we don’t, we will need the cover.
Despite being kept at the King Power Stadium this season, the defender has not played a single minute in the Premier League so far this term.

Benkovic joined Celtic on a season-long loan deal in the summer of 2018 and enjoyed his spell at the club.
The fact that Rodgers revealed that Benkovic’s future depends on them signing another defender means that there is a slim chance of him leaving because the Foxes have not yet announced any deal for a new centre-back, so for the time being, it looks like Benkovic will be staying put.
However, the fact that Derby have identified the Croatian as their top target is a blow to the Hoops because it means they could have a battle on their hands for his signature.
