Celtic have missed out on the signing of Stoke City goalkeeper Joe Bursik.
Football Insider revealed the Hoops’ interest in Bursik last month, claiming the club were “very keen” to sign the 19-year-old who they described as a “rising star.”
However according to the Stoke Sentinel, Bursik has put pen to paper on a new three-and-a-half year deal with the English Championship side; something he is incredibly pleased with.
It’s a great moment for me, getting my second pro deal done. It’s even better to get it done at Stoke, where I want to be playing.

Given how Celtic were said to be “very keen” on signing Bursik this month, news of his new deal with Stoke is likely to come as a slight setback for the club.
The Hoops are always on the lookout for emerging talents to sign, and have already landed 15-year-old Bruno Davidson on a three-year deal this month, the Daily Record revealed earlier in January.
Therefore adding Bursik, who has featured for England at youth level, would have been an exciting talent to add to the ranks in my opinion.
Furthermore, Stoke fans clearly think highly of the 19-year-old as well, with many unhappy to hear of Celtic’s interest in him earlier in the window.
However they are now likely to be delighted following Bursik’s new deal.
