Noel Whelan believes Celtic’s reported interest in Cameron Dawson could spell the end of Craig Gordon’s time at the club.
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan suggested that while Gordon has been “a great servant” for Celtic, his days at Parkhead could be numbered after the Hoops were linked with a move for the Sheffield Wednesday ‘keeper.
When asked if “the writing is on the wall for Gordon,” Whelan responded:
Yeah I think so. They’re probably looking for someone a bit younger who can kick on for a good four or five years at the club.

He’s been a great servant Craig Gordon, still a fantastic goalkeeper, and I’m sure he’s not ready to hang up his boots yet and I’m sure there will be other clubs queuing up to get him. But sometimes at a club, you need new faces, to move in a fresh direction.

With Gordon’s current contract with the club set to expire in the summer, it would come as no surprise to me if Celtic were lining Dawson up as his potential replacement.
In my opinion, Gordon may well have already played his last competitive game for the Hoops.
Fraser Forster is clearly Neil Lennon’s number one, while Scott Bain is likely to be restored as his backup following his return from injury.
Therefore Gordon has little chance of featuring from now until the end of the season, unless of course he announces his retirement or that he will leave the club, in which case Lennon may play him at the end of the season to give him one last send off.
