Hendry confident he can still have a Celtic future

Jack Hendry believes he can still have a future at Celtic, despite joining Melbourne City on loan recently.

Celtic confirmed last week that the defender would spend the rest of the season down under on loan with the Australian outfit.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Hendry gave his thoughts on what the future could hold for him back in Scotland.

I still feel I can have a future at Celtic. I love playing for Celtic and they are a massive club.

I still have a couple of years left on my contract there and I feel I can still become a first-team regular at Celtic but for just now I just need to go out get games and to get back playing the way I know I can – to the level that convinced Celtic to go out and buy me from Dundee in the first place.

The good thing to see here from Hendry is the positive attitude. After featuring just once off the bench all season for Celtic, it would’ve been easy for him to become disheartened by his situation at the club.

For Hendry, this will be his big opportunity to get some regular minutes under his belt and that’s something he simply must do if he wants to have any chance of breaking through at Celtic going forward.

Rightly or wrongly, he was never been given a consistent run of games at Celtic. During the 2017/18 season he made just 11 appearances and the following year he was only able to feature 15 times all across all competitions (transfermarkt).

Former Celtic man Jackie McNamara told Football Insider that he doesn’t think Hendry has it in him to forge a long-term future with the Hoops. However, when you consider how bereft of game time the defender has been, nobody should rush into a decision on his future and allow him the opportuntity to prove himself.
