Kris Boyd has suggested that Celtic have a slight advantage in the title race following Rangers’ defeat to Hearts last weekend.
Speaking on Sky Sports News‘ during their transfer deadline day coverage (31/01/2020, 2:40pm), Boyd was asked who he believes is “better equipped” in the race for the Scottish Premiership.
And he responded by suggesting Rangers did have the upper hand prior to the loss last weekend, but he’d now much rather be in Celtic’s position.
Well I think you’d rather have the points in the bag. Up until the game against Hearts last weekend Rangers were in the driving seat as they were two points behind with a game in hand. But obviously they lost that game and Celtic have strengthened.
It’s exciting times and I think it’ll be a good title race. At least we’ve got one in Scotland!

Seeing Boyd admit that Celtic do have the upper hand given how they have more points on the board than Rangers is quite surprising, as he is usually not one to talk up the Hoops’ chances.
However although there is still a long way to go in the season, it’s hard to disagree that Celtic are currently better placed than Rangers in the title race.
Neil Lennon’s men are currently five points clear having played on game more, meaning Rangers will still be two points adrift even if they win their game in hand.
Furthermore, the Hoops have outscored their rivals by five goals, since returning from the winter break, netting nine goals in three league outings while Rangers have only found the back of the net on four occasions.
