A number of Celtic supporters have been reminiscing about the day Scott Brown created ‘The Broony’ after the club reminded fans that it happened on this day back in 2011.
The Hoops captain has enjoyed many a memorable moment for Celtic since his Scottish record £4.4million move back in 2007 (The Guardian), lifting no fewer than 19 titles during his trophy-laden spell at Parkhead (Transfermarkt).
And the creation of his trademark celebration ‘The Broony’ has got to be right up there as well.
After scoring a belter with his weaker left-foot against Rangers back in 2011 to salvage a 2-2 draw for the 10-men of Celtic, Brown did not turn away and sprint to celebrate with the supporters.
No. Instead he did something far more satisfying, and turned around with his outstretched arms, staring directly at Rangers’ El-Hadji Diouf to create, ‘The Broony.’
And following the club’s tweet about the celebration, these Celtic supporters have shared their reactions, with many labelling it as “iconic.”
