Dyche reveals Gibson didn’t come close to January move amid Celtic interest

Burnley manager Sean Dyche has revealed Ben Gibson didn’t come close to a January move away amid interest from Celtic.
The likes of Watford and Middlesbrough were all linked with the 27-year-old last month alongside Celtic, TEAMtalk reported, but the defender remained at Burnley.
And according to LancsLive, Dyche has revealed a January move for Gibson never looked likely.
When asked whether the centre-back was close to leaving last month, Dyche reportedly replied:
No, not really.

A move for Gibson would have made perfect sense in my opinion, as I feel as though Celtic needed to strengthen at centre-back.
Jozo Simunovic spent a large part of the first-half of the season out injured, leaving just Kristoffer Ajer and Christopher Jullien as the only two recognised centre-halves.
Therefore, bringing Gibson in would have bolstered defensive numbers, and given the likes of Ajer and Jullien some competition.
However, hearing Dyche say that the 27-year-old was never really close to a move away suggests it may not have been a deal Celtic were ever able to complete.
