Jackie McNamara revealed he doesn’t fully agree with Chris Sutton’s tweet comparing Odsonne Edouard to Celtic legend Henrik Larsson.
The BT Sport pundit took to Twitter to praise the Frenchman following Celtic’s 4-0 win over Motherwell, suggesting Eddy is the Hoops’ best player since Larsson.
Twitter: Celtic brilliant tonight… some of the football tonight breathtaking ⚽️Edouard the closest thing to Larsson I’ve s… https://t.co/fQORJ7iuYn (@chris_sutton73)
However speaking to Football Insider, McNamara suggested that Larsson was “world-class” and Eddy still has some way to go until he reaches the Swede’s level.
I don’t know about that, it’s a tough comparison. They’ve had some unbelievable strikers over the years but Henrik for me was world-class.
Edouard’s getting better, little bits obviously (he needs to improve on), Henrik was a player who just got better and better when he first came into Celtic.
He started with us, got better and better and then goes to Barcelona and then Man U after that. Henrik for me was world-class.

Given how Sutton and Larsson formed a “formidable” strike partnership following his move to the club in 2000 (Daily Record), I feel as though he is best placed to judge here.
And if the man who played alongside the King believes Eddy is the best Celtic player to have donned the Hoops jersey since him, then who are we to argue?
The Frenchman has been nothing short of sublime this season in my opinion, scoring his 23rd and 24th goals of the season, respectively, against ‘Well on Wednesday night (BBC Sport).
And if he continues in this current vein of form, could he even challenge Larsson’s record of scoring 53 goals in one season back in the 2000/01 campaign?
