Celtic have been handed a huge boost ahead of their Europa League last 32 first leg with FC Copenhagen this Thursday, after the Hoops’ opponents sold their top goalscorer.

That’s according to Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet, who claim striker Pieros Sotiriou has left Copenhagen to join Astana in a €5million move, with the 27-year-old confirming the deal after he left the club’s training ground earlier on Tuesday.

This is a huge boost for Celtic, as Sotiriou has been a key figure for the Danish side this season.

The 27-year-old has found the back of the net 13 times and created three assists for Stale Solbakken’s side this campaign, with the striker being the only Copenhagen player to have reached double figures for goals this season (Transfermarkt).

Do you think Celtic will beat Copenhagen over two legs?

Yes

No

Furthermore, given how he had played every minute of Copenhagen’s Group Stage campaign (Transfermarkt), it was almost certain that he was set to feature on Thursday night against Celtic.

However, the Hoops now no longer have to worry about Sotiriou following his move, and that is likely to come as hugely positive news for Neil Lennon given his importance to the side.
