Chelsea have become the latest club to be linked with a move for Amiens striker Serhou Guirassy.
Both Celtic and Tottenham are interested in the £18million-rated Frenchman, according to a report in the Daily Mail earlier this week.
And in his recent column for Sky Sports, reporter Kaveh Solhekol has revealed that Chelsea are now keeping tabs on the 23-year-old, who was scouted by Tottenham in Amiens’ 4-4 draw with Paris Saint-Germain last weekend.
That performance was watched by scouts from Premier League clubs including Tottenham. They are looking for a back-up striker and interested clubs are being told that Guirassy will be available for about £18m in the summer. Frank Lampard has also been told about Guirassy’s qualities and Chelsea are watching him closely.
READ CELTIC VERDICT
Celtic should let the likes of Chelsea and Spurs battle it out for Guirassy, in my opinion.
Not only is the striker reportedly worth double what the Hoops’ current transfer record is at £18m, but there appear to be cheaper alternatives who have scored more goals than the Frenchman has this season.
Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney is the obvious candidate to compare Guirassy to, as both are the same age and both have now been linked with Celtic.
However, there are also standout differences between the pair, as Toney has scored nearly triple the amount of league goals that Guirassy has this season, with 23 compared to the Frenchman’s eight (Transfermarkt).
Furthermore, the Posh striker is said to be worth half of what the 23-year-old is valued at, with Bristol Live suggesting a fee of £9m could be enough to secure his services.
Although Guirassy has featured 21 times in the league this season compared to the Toney’s 31 appearances, the Posh forward had already netted 14 times after his 21 league outings (Transfermarkt), compared to the former’s eight goals.
With Chelsea ans Spurs sniffing around, it seems unlikely that Celtic will have the financial muscle to complete a deal for Guirassy and as such, we think they should focus on other targets.
