Celtic Player Ratings: FC Copenhagen (H)

Celtic crashed out of the Europa League in disastrous fashion at Parkhead on Thursday evening as they succumbed to a 3-1 defeat to FC Copenhagen.

It was a cagey first 45 minutes, where neither side looked too comfortable or dangerous. James Forrest and Mohammed Elyounoussi had decent chances, but neither could find the composure to put the Bhoys ahead.

Albeit, heading into half-time, the home side still looked the most likely to score, or at least, not concede.

However, a disastrous piece of defending from Jozo Simunovic allowed substitute Michael Santos to fire the away side in front and make all Celtic’s solid work last week meaningless.

Neil Lennon’s side were clearly knocked by the goal and struggled to test the impressive Johnsson. The Hoops were flat and energy was needed, but Lennon waited until the 70th minute to introduce Leigh Griffiths in place of Elyounoussi.

He almost made an instant impact, but his shot was miraculously saved by the Swedish ‘keeper.

Once again on the front foot, Celtic finally got the slice of luck they deserved when Ragner Sigurdsson clearly handled the ball in the box and were awarded a penalty.

The game looked destined for extra-time as Odsonne Edouard stepped up and pitched the perfect penalty to draw the Hoops level.

Their hopes lasted for two minutes, as once again, chaos at the back unfolded and Pep Biel restored Copenhagen’s lead.

To seal the deal, moments later Dame N’Doye fired into the bottom corner.
