Celtic will be looking to quickly move on from Thursday’s shock Europa League exit when they travel to St Johnstone on Sunday.
The Hoops continue their push for a fourth consecutive domestic treble with their quarter-final clash against Saints this weekend, following two relatively straightforward wins over Partick Thistle and Clyde in the previous rounds, respectively.
It will be Celtic’s second trip to McDiarmid Park in just over a month following their 3-0 win towards the end of January.
However, the Saints have put together a solid run of form of late and are unbeaten since that defeat in all competitions, winning three and drawing three, including a 2-2 tie with Rangers last weekend.
Therefore they are likely to prove a tough nut to crack for Celtic on Sunday, but could Neil Lennon be looking to shake things up following Thursday’s defeat to FC Copenhagen?
After the Hoops boss watched the Reserves thrash Hibernian 4-1 at the start of the week, I’ve taken a look at six players who could have impressed him enough to be in contention to feature this weekend.
Scott Brown didn’t appear to be 100% fit on Thursday, and with that in mind, Lennon could look to rest him this weekend.
That would open up a spot in midfield for someone like Soro, in what would be a long-awaited debut following his move to the club in January.
Connell is another who could be in line for a long-awaited debut if Broony is rested on Sunday.
The midfielder is yet to make an appearance since signing from Bolton Wanderers last summer, but he has been in impressive form for the Reserves of late, so he could be in Lenny’s thoughts for this weekend’s tie.
Like Connell, Dembele has also been in fine fettle for the Reserves in recent weeks and the winger grabbed another two goals in the 4-1 win over Hibs, with Lennon watching from the sidelines.
The 17-year-old has made two substitute appearances already this season (Transfermarkt), could he be in line for another on Sunday?
The 21-year-old has had limited opportunities since his move in January, but he did score against Hibs on Monday, and he is another who could be in line to feature this weekend.
Arzani also started in the Reserves’ win on Monday, and he grabbed an assist for Connell’s goal. The winger’s only appearance for Celtic has come in the Scottish Cup this season, so could he be set for another run out on Sunday?
Hatem Abd Elhamed
Elhamed stepped up his recovery from injury on Monday and is probably the most likely to feature out of the six players mentioned, given how he made 13 appearances this season prior to his spell on the sidelines (Transfermarkt).
