A potential return to Celtic for Victor Wanyama can finally now be ruled out as the midfielder confirmed he has moved to MLS outfit Montreal Impact, but Neil Lennon shouldn’t be disappointed by the deal.

Celtic were linked with a deadline day move for the midfielder, according to the Evening Standard, whilst Lenny also revealed at Celtic’s AGM back in December that he was interested in re-signing the 28-year-old (Daily Record).
However, a move clearly failed to materialise, and Big Vic is now jetting off to the MLS to join Montreal.

Although Lenny admitted to wanting to sign the midfielder prior to the January window, he shouldn’t be too disheartened to miss out on him, even though I have previously suggested he could’ve been a good signing in the push for 10-in-a-row.
Given how he helped the club win the Premiership twice and the Scottish Cup once during his time at Parkhead (Transfermarkt), it’s likely that a lot of pressure would’ve been on his shoulders to succeed once again.
Furthermore, according to The Athletic, he was earning around £65,000-a-week at Tottenham and one would assume based on this, that he could’ve been one of Celtic’s highest earners had he returned.
And that could have added further pressure on Wanyama if he did return, in what is already set to be a hugely significant season for the club.
Therefore missing out on him allows Lennon to finally put the rumour to bed and focus on bringing in other targets without the added pressure of someone like Wanyama returning on a high wage.
The Celtic boss can also focus on helping the likes of Ismaila Soro and Scott Robertson develop into midfielders who can feature regularly in the first-team going forward.
