Newcastle United winger Rolando Aarons, who is currently on loan with Motherwell, has lavished praise on David Turnbull, and his comments show why Celtic must make a move for the midfielder again this summer.
The 20-year-old was set to join the Hoops in a £3.25 million move prior to this season, before his medical revealed he needed to have preventative knee surgery immediately (BBC Sport).
Turnbull has recently recovered from injury and appears to have impressed Aarons upon his return, with the winger describing him as a top player, the Motherwell Times report.
David Turnbull was injured when I first arrived but from what I’ve seen at training he looks like a very, very good player. I’m looking forward to playing with him.

Given how Aarons has played 18 times in the Premier League for Newcastle in his career (Transfermarkt), he has experience of playing with and coming up against talented footballers.
Therefore his comments about Turnbull certainly hold some weight and emphasise just how impressive a player the 20-year-old is, especially considering how Aarons only joined Well on loan in January.
In the short space of time he has been at the club, Turnbull has already caught Aarons’ eye, even though the midfielder has only just recovered from his knee operation.
Not only does he appear an impressive player based on Aarons’ judgement, but his form last season suggests he has a lot to offer Celtic.
Despite playing in midfield and for a side who eventually finished eighth in the Premiership, Turnbull still managed to score 15 times in the league whilst also providing six assists (Transfermarkt).
That’s the kind of goalscoring form Celtic like to have in their midfield ranks, considering Ryan Christie and Callum McGregor have both reached double figures for goals this season (Transfermarkt).
Furthermore, in an interview with Motherwell’s official YouTube channel, Turnbull revealed how much he was looking forward to signing for Celtic last summer, meaning he is likely to still be keen on a switch to Parkhead.
