Sky Sports pundit Darren Bent believes Leigh Griffiths deserves a lot more praise than he is currently receiving following his strong run of form, and he is spot on with his comments.
Speaking to Football Insider, Bent praised the 29-year-old’s form in front of goal since the turn of the year and described the lack of attention he is receiving as “very strange.”
He’s been absolutely brilliant, to be fair, scoring that hat trick. He always used to score goals for them but for whatever reason he doesn’t get the credit he probably feels he deserves.
It’s a bit of a strange one – actually it’s a very strange one – but all he can keep doing is do the business. It seems he doesn’t get the credit he deserves.

While the likes of John Hartson and Chris Sutton have both hailed Griffiths’ form in 2020, there does seem to be a lack of appreciation for the striker outside of the Celtic fanbase.
And as Bent suggests, that is incredibly strange. Griff has scored seven goals in 10 league outings in 2020, whilst also setting another three up for his teammates (Transfermarkt).
Therefore, he is contributing a goal or an assist at an average of every league game so far this year, which emphasises how strong his form has been.
It will be intriguing to see whether the 29-year-old has done enough to earn a recall to the Scotland squad later this month for the Euro 2020 play-off against Israel. His form certainly deserves such recognition, especially when you consider the fact he has scored more goals this year than any of the players who were included in the last Scotland squad.
