Celtic were right not to sign Victor Wanyama in January after one journalist revealed what his average yearly income will be, following his move to MLS outfit Montreal Impact.
The midfielder was linked with a deadline day return to Celtic, with the Evening Standard suggesting the club were in talks with Tottenham over a loan deal, but the move failed to materialise.
Wanyama then completed a move to Impact earlier this month, and The Athletic’s Sam Stejskal has now revealed what the midfielder’s average yearly wage with the MLS side is.

A wage of $3m-a-year shows just why Celtic were smart to not pursue a move for the 52-cap Kenya international.
Converting that into pounds and working out a rough weekly wage equates to a figure in the region of £48,000-a-week, which is likely to have made him Celtic’s highest earner.
James Forrest’s new deal earlier this season took him to a weekly wage of around £25,000-a-week which, according to Football Insider, saw him join the likes of Christopher Jullien and Scott Brown as the club’s top earners.
Therefore Wanyama’s wage would’ve almost doubled what Forrest is on, and that is likely to have been a hugely significant sum for Celtic to pay just one player.
Had the Hoops been desperate for extra strength in depth in midfield, then perhaps such a figure could have been justified.
But brining him in for that kind of money on top of what Celtic already had might’ve been an unnecessary move.
Furthermore, it could have added extra pressure on to Wanyama’s shoulders to deliver, and therefore Celtic were right to avoid a move for Big Vic in the end.
