Celtic are likely to be keeping a close eye on the promotion race in the EFL League One following Darren Ferguson’s comments on Hoops target Ivan Toney.
According to the Peterborough Telegraph, the Peterborough United boss has revealed he will have “no chance” of keeping Toney at the club in the summer if Posh fail to gain promotion to the Championship.
If we go up we have a chance of keeping Ivan. We have no chance if we don’t go up. If we are in the Championship next season I am sure the chairman, the co-owners and Barry Fry (director of football) will sit down with Ivan and make him a very good offer.

This has the potential to be incredibly positive news for Celtic, as a striker may well be needed this summer.
Odsonne Edouard has been attracting a lot of attention following his stellar season, with a number of Premier League clubs and sides from further afield in Europe interested in the Frenchman (Football Insider).
Therefore, Neil Lennon could need to shop for a replacement, and if Posh fail to gain promotion to the Championship, Toney could be the man to fit the bill for Celtic.
Yes the 24-year-old is said to be valued in the region of £10 million (Peterborough Telegraph), but there is good reason for that.
Toney is spearheading Posh’s push for promotion this season, with his 24 goals in League One (BBC Sport) helping his side to sixth in the table, which is the final promotion spot in the division.
Those 24 goals have come in just 32 league appearances so far (Transfermarkt), and they also mean he is nine goals clear of the second highest goalscorer in League One, with Fleetwood Town’s Paddy Madden on 15 (BBC Sport).
Therefore Toney is an out-and-out goalscorer, and if Eddy does depart, he could be just the man to replace the Frenchman in the summer.
And if Posh fail to gain promotion, then Celtic’s chances of signing the 24-year-old could be much higher following Ferguson’s comments.
