Neil Lennon has shared his thoughts on Scott Brown’s potential move to Western Melbourne in the 2019 January transfer window, suggesting the switch would’ve been a “disaster” for Celtic.
According to Glasgow Live, Broony was offered a contract by the Hyundai A-League side and Lennon believes it would’ve been bad news for Celtic had he made the move down under.
I wasn’t here at the time but when I heard talk about him possibly going to Australia, I thought it would have been a disaster.

Lennon makes an excellent point here, as it would’ve been a significant blow for Celtic to have lost Broony last year. At that stage, the Hoops were looking to complete the Treble Treble at the end of the season, and having the skipper around for that run proved to be hugely important given how he eventually captained the side to the triumph.
Furthermore, had he left in January before Brendan Rodgers also departed in February, that would’ve represented two hugely significant departures from the club at an important stage of the season.
But of course he stayed for the famous Treble Treble, and his importance in the side has been emphasised once again this season, considering how he has played 50 times so far this campaign.
I don’t think it’s an exaggeration from Lennon to say that it would’ve been a “disaster” if he did leave, and hopefully he can continue this form for a possible 10-in-a-row push.
