A decision about the future of the Premier League could have a big impact on Celtic’s title chances this season.
According to the Daily Record, a source in England who has been involved in discussions about the future of the Premier League has revealed they are still looking for a way to finish the 2019/20 campaign, but Scottish officials believe that is an unrealistic target.
The entire professional game across England is now in a state of high anxiety. The Championship clubs have already been pleading for help from their big brothers in the Premier League. But the top flight clubs are hardly in a position to bail anyone else out given the scale of the numbers they will be facing if their own season is not completed.
That’s why there is such a reluctance to accept the reality of the situation which coronavirus has brought to the game. A variety of plans have been drawn up and they could work but only if this season’s remaining matches can be played in July. I think the view in Scotland is that this is more than just ambitious, it’s desperate.
To be fair, that’s probably closer to the truth but then the Scottish game isn’t facing anywhere near the same level of financial liabilities. So when it comes to deciding the next step for season 2019/20 it looks more and more like you guys might have to paddle your own canoe.

Up until this point, officials from the SPFL have been in discussions with football’s authorities from the rest of UK about a cross border agreement on what to do with the 2019/20 season.
However, Premier League chiefs could reportedly face a bill of £1 billion if they ended the season at this point, meaning they are looking to complete the rest of the campaign one or another.
And while that is the outcome the majority of clubs are likely to want, with Scottish officials viewing the plans to finish this season as unrealistic, they could be forced into making a separate decision to the Premier League.
This, of course, would have a big impact on Celtic, as it could see them crowned champions without the rest of this season being completed, while a null and void situation has not yet been completely ruled out.
