Celtic’s stance on the outcome of the 2019/20 season has been revealed by a source close to the club, and the Hoops appear to be adopting the right approach ahead of a big week for the SPFL.
According to the Daily Record, the source revealed Celtic have always wanted to see the season out by finishing the remaining fixtures, but the club also understands a compromise may need to be made for the good of the Scottish game.
Celtic’s position is very clear. We have always wanted the league season to be completed and that remains our view. If there is any chance of playing the games and finishing the season over the summer then that’s what we would prefer.
But we also understand the financial problems are piling up for clubs all across the country the longer this crisis continues. If the season has to be ended early in order to stop clubs from going to the wall then, of course, we would go along with that. It has to be all about the greater good.

This week looks set to be a huge one with regards to what happens for the remainder of this season, with the SPFL set to have conference calls to decide whether they should follow Belgium’s lead and end the season now.
However, that decision is likely to be an incredibly controversial one, considering how Rangers and Hearts have already threatened to take legal action if that happens, as the former would, of course, finish second while the latter would be relegated.
And whilst that decision would see Celtic crowned champions now, it’s a positive to see the Hoops take the stance of wanting to complete the season by finishing their remaining league games.
That would be the fairest outcome as the final eight games, nine in Rangers’ case, would be played out and the league would end with nobody able to dispute their final standing.
But whether that can happen remains to be seen, as clubs are already feeling the financial strain of football being postponed until further notice, as the source reveals.
While Celtic want the best outcome possible, it is also good to see that they’re willing to do what is best for the rest of the teams in the division.
