Scott Brown urged Celtic to keep Jonny Hayes for at least one more season, according to a report from Football Insider.

Celtic confirmed Hayes’ departure on Saturday afternoon, but the player himself already let the cat out of the bag with an Instagram post of his own on Friday.

Football Insider report that a source at Celtic told them that Brown was keen for Hayes to stay, not only for his on-field ability but also because of his influence in the dressing room

Celtic have quite a young squad and Hayes’ attitude and levels of professionalism were seemingly a good example for the younger Hoops, hence why Brown was keen for him to stay.

With Fraser Forster set to return to Southampton, as things stand, it’s easy to see why Brown may have wanted to keep Hayes around as he was one of the few experienced players in the Celtic squad.

Broony is a tremendous captain and leader but he does need help when it comes to being an example to a young squad, so it will be interesting to see if the Hoops look to bring in one or two older heads this summer.

Whilst the club’s policy of signing younger players has worked well in recent years, Celtic were able to bring those stars into a team with a few more experienced pros.

Now, Celtic have a lot of players in their early to mid-20s, so a few of those players who’ve been at the club for a while will need to step up to help Brown out as he looks to captain Celtic to what would be an amazing tenth league title win in a row.
