As reported earlier by Read Celtic, Celtic are indeed keen to extend Fraser Forster’s Parkhead stay for an additional year via another one-year loan from Southampton.
This news should be well taken by most Celtic supporters, as Forster is, in my opinion, truly among the best in Europe when it comes to the biggest of moments.
If the Hoops aren’t able to work out a deal with Forster however, Celtic have been linked with former Manchester City standout Joe Hart and former West Brom keeper Ben Foster, as well as a link with former Real Sociedad and Barcelona standout Claudio Bravo.
Before we delve into who the best choice is, Forster is clearly Celtic’s first target and they are looking to bring him back on loan after an outstanding 2019/20 season.
While each of them have had great years as goalkeepers, none of them are a turn for the future and none of them are as exciting as they might have been several years back.
At 37 years of age, both Bravo and Foster have very limited time left in the game. Even Joe Hart, at 32 years of age, has had what was once a sensational time with Man City tarnished after some woeful mistakes that have plagued him in recent years.

While Forster’s return for 10 in a row would be ideal, it still may not come into fruition. In the event that that happens, a signing like Hart, Foster, or Bravo would be a step in the wrong direction.
I’d like to see Celtic sign a more youthful keeper, even if it is just a loanee, with his better days ahead of him, something Celtic haven’t done since originally signing Forster on loan in 2010.
At this point, unless Hart, Bravo, or Foster will accept cheap salaries, it is a risky move to bring in such a questionable keeper when Celtic are on the verge of 10 in a row.
It might be best to trust the likes of Scott Bain and maybe even Craig Gordon if Forster’s return is blocked for any reason.
