Peterborough United have rejected a £4million bid for Celtic target Ivan Toney, according to a report from Peterborough Today.
Toney, who has been linked with a move to Celtic, will be allowed to leave the League One side this summer after the early curtailment of the season meant that they missed out on promotion.
Last summer, Posh told the forward that he would be allowed to leave if the club were unable to earn promotion and they intend to keep their promise if a suitable bid comes in.
MLS side New York Red Bulls made a £4m bid for the player, but that was rejected and the club’s chairman Barry Fry explained the reasoning behind turning that offer down.
He said:
New York Red Bulls have plenty of money, but they didn’t offer us anywhere near enough for Ivan. It was £4 million with several add ons, but we will get bigger offers than that once our 2019/20 season comes to an end. Lots of clubs will be looking for a top-class striker and there won’t be any better than Ivan available, especially at what we consider a reasonable price for a player of his age who has already improved considerably and will improve even more in the future.

If £4m isn’t enough for Toney, and if Peterborough are looking towards the £10m range for him, then it seems highly unlikely that he’ll be moving to Celtic.
Odsonne Edouard, hopefully, looks likely to be staying with the Hoops for at least one year and as such, there doesn’t seem to be a need to bring in another high-priced forward.
If the Frenchman does leave though, Toney could be a decent replacement and it looks like Celtic now know that it would cost £10m to get him.
