Celtic’s chances of signing Scotland international Scott McKenna have vastly improved following the news that his teammate Sam Cosgrove has rejected a move to Guingamp.
This could pave the way for McKenna to leave the Dons, who have been hit hard financially during the pandemic and need to raise funds.
Football Insider reports that Cosgrove was potentially signing for Guingamp for £2.7 million, but without that move materialising, Aberdeen will now be willing to listen to offers for their star player.
The 23-year-old centre-back has been pursued by the Hoops for a few years and Celtic have had multiple bids rejected in that time.
Celtic were informed at the time that it would cost them £10 million to secure Mckenna’s services, but they are apparently looking to snap him up for a portion of that price in the upcoming transfer window.
READ CELTIC VERDICT
Celtic are on the hunt for a centre-back to come in and sure up their defence and McKenna would be a very good signing, in our opinion.
Having supported Celtic as a boy, it would be safe to assume that McKenna would love to represent the Scottish champions at the highest level.
Aberdeen are said to be looking at offers of around £7 million for the defender and although he does have three years left on his contract, Celtic are apparently hopeful of getting a cheaper deal.
At 23-years-old, McKenna has already broken into the Scottish national team and has impressed at both club and international levels and he could be a very good addition for Celtic, who look like they need to sign at least one centre-back before the start of the season.
