Celtic have missed out on West Ham youngster Veron Parkes after the 18-year-old chose to join Dutch side Fortuna Sittard.

The Hoops had been linked with Parkes and they made a contract offer after he turned down a professional deal at the London Stadium, however, the striker has since been signed by the Dutch club.

Celtic were one of a number of clubs interested in youngster after he lit up the Under-18 English Premier League in 2019/20 – scoring 11 goals in just 14 appearances.

In total, Parkes managed 13 goals in his 19 outings last term for the Hammers, including goals in the FA Youth Cup and EFL Trophy.

Despite missing out on their man, Hoops fans will be rightly excited to see the club being linked with bright attacking prospects such as Parkes.

Boss Neil Lennon clearly saw a need to bring in more attacking depth to his squad as he plotted his side’s way to a never before seen tenth consecutive Scottish Premiership triumph, but the arrival of Albian Ajeti has addressed that issue.

With the 18-year-old now conformed as a Fortuna Sittard player, Lennon’s’ attention will have to turn elsewhere if he does want to bring in some young, talented players.
