Celtic Edging Closer To David Turnbull Transfer

Celtic look like they are getting closer to landing their latest signing as Motherwell midfielder David Turnbull missed training with his team-mates on Wednesday, as per the Daily Record.

The Scotland Under-21 international has held talks over a move whilst the two clubs negotiate a fee, but it looks like it’s only a matter of time before the transfer is completed.

This isn’t the first time the 21-year-old has come close to a switch to the Scottish champions, a deal was agreed last summer for Turnbull to make a £3million switch, however, a knee injury was discovered during his medical and caused the deal to collapse.

The midfielder subsequently spent some time on the sidelines and underwent two different surgeries to fix the issue. He is now back to full fitness and has suitable impressed Neil Lennon once more.

Motherwell have been preparing for their Europa League qualifier against Northern Irish side Glentoran on Thursday, but the youngster hasn’t been seen in training this week, leading to speculation that his move could be imminent.

The Fir Park club’s manager Stephen Robinson said on the value of Turnbull ahead of the move:

I don’t get involved in the money side – but if he was valued at £3m last time he’s certainly a £3m player in my eyes.’

Meanwhile, Hoops midfielder Callum Robinson spoke about his potential new teammate ahead of his own Champions League qualifier with Hungarian’s Ferencvaros, saying:

He’s been excellent. Obviously Celtic have been monitoring him for a while and he’s a top young player so it’d be good if we could get him in.

Should the deal this time be rubber-stamped, the Bhoys can be very excited about seeing their new man in action in the near future as Lennon plots his way to ten in a row.

Unfortunately, Celtic’s Champions League dreams have been ended for another season so Turnbull won’t be playing in Europe’s top competition, but his presence in the middle of the park will be a boost to Celtic in other competitions.

As we saw last night, Celtic do need some more creativity in midfield and hopefully, Turnbull will be the man to provide that going forwards.
