Roma are reportedly set to step up their interest in out of favour Celtic left-back Boli Bolingoli.

According to the reports in the Italian media, Roma are interested in acquiring the services of Bolingoli after first-choice left-back Alexander Kolarov left for Inter Milan earlier this summer.

Several other Italian clubs have been linked with a move for the Belgian full-back, although Roma are said to be the most appealing option following their fifth-placed finish last season.

A versatile option on the left flank, Bolingoli has struggled to settle at Celtic following his transfer from Rapid Vienna last summer.

The 25-year-old is currently suspended having broken the strict social distancing guidelines last month, and whilst Neil Lennon has yet to be drawn on whether he sees Bolingoli’s future at the club, there is significant interest in the player from across Europe.

Former Brighton defender Shane Duffy has already been bought in to shore up Celtic’s defence ahead of a hectic fixture list, which is due in no small part to Bolingoli’s misdemeanour, whilst the club continues to be linked with moves for new full-backs too.

There is still the possibility that Celtic could sack Bolingoli for his actions, but this looks unlikely as the Scottish champions seem content with trying to recoup some of the £3.5 million they paid for the defender last summer.
