Celtic are preparing a new £800,000 bid for Charlton Athletic midfielder Alfie Doughty as reported by Sky Sports.
The revised offer from the Hoops will also include add-ons as the Scottish champions aim to land their man after seeing previous bids rejected by the Addicks.
20-year-old Doughty is in the last year of his deal with the League One club, and manager Lee Bowyer faces an uphill battle to keep hold of his man amid Celtic’s interest.
Neil Lennon has held a long time interest in Doughty, having made two previous bids, and it looks like that interest is about to lead to a third offer.
A youth product at The Valley, Doughty broke into the Addicks’ first-team in 2019/20 making 21 Championship appearances scoring two goals.
It was a positive start to the new campaign for the youngster, as he kicked off the season with the opening goal in Charlton’s 2-0 away victory over Crewe Alexandra.
In the current financial climate and having suffered relegation at the end of last season, it will be an interesting test of the obvious desire to keep the midfielder at the London club.
Having tried their hand twice before, Celtic will hope their new bid will meet Charlton’s valuation and the Bhoys will finally land their long time target, who looks to have a bright future.
