Celtic have been on the lookout for a left-back during the transfer window, with Charlton Athletic’s Alfie Doughty a long-term target for Neil Lennon.
However, it appears as if the Hoops’ stance on the Addicks star has now changed, with the club reportedly closing in on a season-long loan deal for AC Milan’s Diego Laxalt.
According to The Herald, the Scottish champions have not made a third bid to sign the player and will now explore the possibility of a pre-contract agreement in the New Year for the 20-year-old.
Doughty is out of contract at The Valley at the end of the season, so Celtic can discuss terms with the versatile youngster in January ahead of a possible free transfer next summer.

As long as the club can secure the services of Milan’s Laxalt before tonight’s deadline, then leaving a deal for Doughty, for now, may well be a smart decision, providing they can secure him on a free next summer.
Doughty can play in midfield, at left-back or left wing-back, ideal for Lennon, who has tinkered with a back three and a back four this season.
It looks set to be a busy final day for all involved with the Hoops, but for now, it doesn’t look like Doughty will be arriving at Celtic Park.
