Celtic and Leeds United know all about FC Utrecht winger Gyrano Kerk.

The Hoops had a bid rejected for the attacker last January, while the Whites held discussions regarding a deal for Kerk over the summer.

However, the 24-year-old remains a Utrecht player following the closing of the transfer window earlier this month.

Neil Lennon was reportedly looking to bring in a winger late in the window, but the club’s only deadline day acquisition was AC Milan left-back Diego Laxalt.

The Northern Irishman may well be on the search for a wide signing once again in January, and we feel as though the club need to reignite their interest in Kerk in the New Year.

Kerk, predominantly a right-winger, can also play through the middle and on the left and enjoyed an excellent second half of the season last year following the Hoops’ reported interest.

The Dutchman ended with 10 goals and eight assists in 24 Eredivisie games and has already bagged two in three during the current campaign (Transfermarkt).

His impressive goal involvement record would give Lennon another exciting option on the flank, with Celtic currently short of options on the right.

James Forrest is currently out injured, while Ryan Christie and Hatem Elhamed are both isolating, leaving Jeremie Frimpong as the only right-sided winger/wing-back available.

Having another attack-minded option on the right could be crucial to Lennon for the second half of the season, and valued at £5.85million by Transfermarkt, you’d like to think a deal could be financially viable.

Voetbal International, cited by HITC, heaped praise on Kerk for his successful season last year, describing him as a ‘speed demon who always creates danger in the final third’.

Do Celtic need a winger in January?

Yes

No

Celtic officials may have been keeping tabs on Kerk, who has gone from strength to strength over the last 12 months, and we feel that it would only enhance the club’s chances of completing a historic 10 in a row if they landed the winger.
