Report reveals Celtic are continuing to show an interest in Husein Balic

Celtic, Premier League high-flyers Southampton and Championship outfit Brentford have all been credited with an interest in LASK Linz winger Husein Balic.

That’s according to the Daily Mail, who claim the 24-year-old has been a target for the Hoops in recent months.

The recent report has suggested that both the Saints and the Bees are now tracking Balic, who has been involved in seven goals in his 14 appearances this season (Transfermarkt).

The Hoops first showed an interest in the player last summer when he was with former side St Polten.

And it appears as if Celtic officials have continued to track the winger, who could be available for just £2.8m in the January window.

The latest report is an interesting one.

Celtic ended up signing Mohamed Elyounoussi on loan following the links to Balic last year, but, if reports are to be believed, they are long-term admirers of the Austrian.

Balic has been timed to run 20 metres in just 2.75 seconds, and his electric pace would add something different to Neil Lennon’s attacking options.

Having another wide option that can compete with the likes of James Forrest and Elyounoussi can only be a good thing and one that we feel the club should be considering.

It remains to be seen as to whether or not the Hoops will firm up their reported long-term interest in the winger in the New Year but it appears one to keep a close eye on.
